Join the Construction Workers' Trade Union (Bygningsarbeidernes Fagforening)

When you're a member of a trade union, you have a community behind you. Together we are stronger when we negotiate wages, working hours and other matters with employers. The relationship is your security and will help you if, for example, you are unfairly fired or do not receive the salary you deserve.

The Construction Workers' Union brings together plumbers, painters, upholsterers, floorers, bricklayers, tilers, concrete mixers, formwork carpenters, steel fixers, general workers, landscape gardeners, crane operators, ventilation workers, insulators and other workers who work on construction sites in Oslo. We work towards an orderly working life with stable employment, fair wages, strong trade unions and a high degree of organist workers. Our association and measurement office make sure that you as a member receive piecework training and can calculate your work. The piecework system is our most important tool for maintaining productivity and wage levels.

The most important union work takes place in the workplace branches. Here, together with your closest colleagues, you ensure that the law and collective agreements are respected in every workplace. It is also in the workplace branches that local wage agreements are negotiated. In order for the union to be as strong as possible, it is important that as many people as possible in the company are organized and participate in the work of the workplace branch. Those who are chosen as shop steward receive training and the opportunity to learn from other stewards in the association.

Whether you are a building school student who is about to start an apprenticeship or an apprentice who is about to start working, you benefit from belonging to a professional organization. In professional life, there are many laws and regulations that are designed to protect the employee. We help you to familiarize yourself with them and, if necessary, we support you in asserting your rights. As a student or apprentice, you are organized from the very beginning and have the support of a trade union throughout your working life. The Construction Workers' Union is part of Fellesforbundet, which in turn is part of LO. This means that as a member you can benefit from the LOfavør benefits program, which, among other things, provides good loan and insurance terms. More than 950,000 members give LO the opportunity to negotiate beneficial and safe contracts for their community.
